The Lonely Continent
Bittertown is a clump of dark, wooden buildings huddled together on the prairie; you first see it miles before you actually get there. As you approach, you notice that the prairie-grass is starting to grow up in the street that seems to be the town’s center, and many of the houses have boarded or broken windows. You see a long, low building that looks like a warehouse, a general store, and an inn with a silver bar painted on the streetside wall.
Bittertown is a small village just a couple of miles away from Bitterrun Mine. Most of the miners employed by Volan Minerals made their homes there, and the town was the central location for the processing and shipment of the ore produced by the mine. When the company was acquired by Memnon’s Antiquities, however, most of the workers were fired and replaced by slaves, and it’s been months since the mine has shipped any new ore, so Bittertown is now mostly abandoned.
